The US Air Force Academy’s parachute team, tracing back to 1962 when a group of cadets started making unofficial jumps on borrowed gear — before the Academy even knew about it. It wasn’t formally chartered until 1966, and today it’s run out of the Academy’s own 98th Flying Training Squadron.
Beyond the air show circuit, the team’s real job is running Academy cadets through Airmanship 490, the basic freefall course every cadet who wants their jump wings has to pass — making Wings of Blue as much a training unit as a demonstration act. It’s also the winningest collegiate parachute team in the sport’s history.
